Chapter Eight

In the modern age of portable communication, it wasn’t necessary to go to his apartment, yet they went there. They needed a moment to relax, allowing the intense gamut of emotions they’d been through the past hours to recede.

Regal made the phone call to the director of the NBCI, requesting politely that Nash and Salvatore be restricted in their interactions with Felix. The director agreed to do so, which was a relief. He hoped they would just go away and back where they came from but quickly learned that that wasn’t going to happen. The two NBCI agents weren’t just in town because of Felix’s case. They were there to evaluate Wildflower and see if the town would benefit from having an office there, in addition to the police department.

It was overkill, as far as Regal was concerned. The police had already increased in numbers, the officers a balanced mix of shifters, vampires, and humans. They were quite successful in handling the problems that arose. He shared his opinion and was told it would be considered, along with Nash’s and Salvatore’s evaluations.

Great.

When Regal was finished with his call, he leaned back against Josef, who put his arm around him to hug him firmly. Regal sighed. It felt nice. It was the kind of feeling he had never experienced with another person. And it felt right, too.

“This has been a hell of a day,” he commented as he closed his eyes. “I’m too tired to set the alarm on my phone. I think I’ll just take a short nap.”

Josef chuckled and kissed his temple. “Sure thing. As much as I love to hold you, don’t you think you’d be more comfortable in bed?”

He opened his eyes and lifted his head so he could look at the handsome vampire. “Are you trying to seduce me?”

There was a sexy glow in Josef’s dark brown eyes. “It would be fun, but I think you need rest more than you need sex.”

Regal nodded. “That’s true. I must be getting old.” He grimaced. “I can’t quite tell if we’re getting this relationship started on the right foot or not.”

“I believe it’s a good test of what we can do together. We can throw sex in when we have the chance. And we’re not too tired,” he said with a wink.

Considering that they were now mated, Regal didn’t think it was a bad thing that he was quickly falling in love with Josef. They hadn’t known each other long. They didn’t need to. It was the connection they would build upon, strengthening with each passing second. Regal was a good judge of character. He had to be. In this instance, Regal didn’t suspect that there was anything dark about Josef’s character. It was a case of what you see is what you get. Hot, sexy, and incredibly sweet, with a dash of underlying danger. That’s how Regal saw his mate.

A huge yawn stretched his jaw. Regal snuggled closer. He would never make it to the bed.
